About Kindred

Kindred is a personality test where you answer 35 questions to learn about yourself. Your result doesn't stop at "You're this kind of person"; it goes on to show what your personality sets in motion at work, in love, with family, and among friends.

How it works

  • The test is made up of 35 statements about everyday situations at work, with friends, in love, with family, and in daily life. For each one, you pick how well it fits you from four options, from "Very true" to "Not true at all."
  • The statements are based on the Big Five model of personality, which is widely used in psychology, and they turn freely available personality items (IPIP) into everyday situations. You answer the same way as with the original items: by how much you agree.
  • Your answers give you scores on five traits, and your type is set by the two that stand out most. There are 40 types in all.

The five traits

Emotional response · How much things shake you when they happen
Rarely shaken ↔ Easily shaken
Planning style · Whether you settle things ahead or as you go
Decide as I go ↔ Plan ahead
Energy source · Whether time alone or time with people fills you up
Recharge alone ↔ Recharge with others
Conflict style · Whether you speak up or give way when you disagree
Say what I think ↔ Give way first
Novelty preference · Whether the unfamiliar or the familiar feels easier
Prefer the familiar ↔ Drawn to the new

What your result shows

  • Your type, its name, and how common that type is
  • What often happens, and why, at work, in love, with family, among friends, and in how others see you
  • Work that takes less out of you, and ways of resting that recharge you
  • Compatibility with someone else, through a result link or code
